SCHMIDTS PAPETERIE – DAS KLEINE PARADIES

SCHMIDTS PAPETERIE – THE LITTLE PARADISE

Jul 10, 2024Lorenz Hartmann

Most shops have finally resumed normal operations - shopping is now a little different than before, but a #coolshop like Schmidt's Papeterie is not letting that throw it off track. A stationery shop with tradition for a quarter of a century, supplemented with the modern advantages of a concept store, this shop makes the hearts of all visitors beat faster.

Where exactly is your store located? What does it look like there?

The shop is located in the beautiful Frankfurt district of Sachsenhausen. And actually right in the middle of it all. On Schweizer Strasse between the two oldest and most famous apple wine taverns, "Wagner" and "Zum gemalten Haus". If you look closely, it's actually IN the painted house. In just 48 square meters, there are goods from 148 suppliers. Eye powder for those who come in for the first time, a Mecca for explorers for those who have a little time. Don't worry, everything is nicely sorted by theme or color, always tidy and clear! Some say it smells wonderfully of paper, others feel "safe" and say it's "cozy".

What is the basic concept of your store?

From the very beginning (October 31, 1995), stationery has been the basis of the business. Home accessories such as tableware, vases, textiles, small furniture, lamps, etc. lighten the atmosphere a little and bring variety to the program. Essentially, you will find cards, wrapping paper, photo albums, guest books, calendars, notebooks, writing utensils, stickers, masking tapes and so much more.

What is special about your shop? How do you use the advantages of brick-and-mortar retail? How do you differentiate yourself from other shops and/or online shops?

The special thing about our shop is the love of small things! (The smallest item is a wooden ladybird to stick on - 10 cents! Or the beautiful tear-off vouchers from Corpus Delicti for 20 cents!) If the customer requests it, we even open the packaging and sell everything individually! Postcards outside are available for as little as 60 cents. And that means the barrier to entering the shop is very low. 80 euros later: "I actually only wanted to buy a postcard." This happens almost every day and is certainly due to the huge range of products, which is simply beautifully presented. If the right photo album isn't there, you just take a vase, a cuddly toy or a pillow. Everything is beautiful. And that may be due to the eye of the buyer, namely me, because I'm a graphic designer by trade. I don't buy because it sells well, but because I love it and would like to have it myself. I select every single item with design in mind. That may make the difference to other shops. We also fulfill almost every customer request. Every item that is not currently in stock is ordered individually! This is how we keep our customers loyal. Every 3 to 4 weeks, new wishes are awakened with a new, fresh window display. We are always in a good mood and many customers come or stay to chat. No web shop in the world can compete with that! Nor can we compete with the feel-good atmosphere and the variety of products, which provide a lot of inspiration.

How did you come across PICKMOTION? What do you like most about PICKMOTION and which products do you like best?

We became aware of PICKMOTION at a trade fair. Love at first sight – no question about it!!! New format, new, very cheerful motifs! Since cards are our greatest strength, PICKMOTION is a must for us.
I really like the cards, they look less constructed and artificially crafted. I think the postcards and folded cards are both great. I also like the magnets, but I find it difficult to fit another stand in due to space constraints.

Are you fed up with online shopping over the last few months? Do you want to discover a little shopping paradise again and be inspired by the variety of selected products in a small but cozy space to be creative at home? Then you should definitely stop by this #awesomeshop .
