A good week ago, we enjoyed our latest #pckwalk in Vienna and discovered parts of the city with some of you - namely the Museumsquartier. For those who were not there, we have now picked some of our favourite places in the city to make sure that all of you can get the perfect Viennese insta-shot (like our cover picture from @gregsideris).
Anyone visiting Vienna should, first of all, get ready for a picture gallery full of architectural finesse. The buildings in the style of the Wilhelminian period, but also influenced by Baroque, Gothic and Art Nouveau, are a main characteristic of the cityscape and, with a bit of luck and a happy weather fairy, can be captured glowing in the most perfect golden light at this time of year.
Nobody can (nor wants to) avoid a visit to the Hundertwasserhaus, especially not a photographer. The extraordinary house impresses with its colourful facade, the lush greenery and refined individuality. Thanks to its unique design, the house, built by the Austrian artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser, is now one of the city's most popular photo spots.
There are so many churches in Vienna and they are all worth a visit. One of our favourites is St. Stephen's Cathedral. The construction from the 12th Century convinces not alone with an impressive panoramic view over the rooftops of Vienna once you climbed up one of its towers. But also the Peterskirche, built in baroque Vienna, as well as the Gothic Maria am Gestade and the Votive Church are impressive to look at.
The university buildings are also particularly beautiful. Founded in 1365, the University of Vienna is one of the oldest and largest universities in Europe. The old buildings are still very well preserved, which makes the interior perfect for some beautiful photos.
Those who prefer modern art and architecture will also find it: The Vienna University of Economics and Business (by the way, the largest in Europe) might as well be the backdrop for the next SciFi blockbuster with its new futuristic campus!
Don't miss out on your proper Sissi feeling and plan a visit to Schönbrunn Palace and Belvedere Palace. Schönbrunn Palace is one of the most important architectural, cultural and historical monuments in Vienna. The baroque complex also includes a Gloriette, which, due to the breathtaking view alone, is worth the way up the hill.
Both castles are also surrounded by beautiful gardens, which are the perfect places for a walk in fine weather and golden autumn lights.
Part of the Schönbrunn Palace Park is the Palm House - a (photo-) oasis inside and outside. The impressive greenhouse is 137 years old, houses over 4500 species of plants and is the perfect destination for rainy days.
For those who need a bit more hustle and bustle, we recommend a trip to the amusement park, the Vienna Prater. It's one of the most touristy places with various rides and roller coasters plus the Viennese Ferris wheel, which is not only landmark of the Prater, but the whole city.
These are them, our photographic highlights & favourite places in Vienna - which ones will you definitely visit on your next trip to the Austrian capital? Do you have any other recommendations? Happy to hear them! Also, don't forget to tag your #urbangoldenhour on Instagram!
