Above all, Pride Month is about letting love run free. For the LGBTQI+ community in particular, this month is an important opportunity to celebrate their sexuality and self-acceptance and to encourage others to do the same. The colorful movement that we know today began not so many years ago with a huge uproar: on the night of June 27-28, 1969, police stormed the "Stonewall Inn" bar for homosexuals on Christopher Street in New York. Unfortunately, this was not an isolated incident, but what was special about this night was that a large number of visitors resisted arrest and a violent confrontation ensued. A year later, a demonstration for LGBTQI+ rights was organized because this event was seen as a turning point in the lesbian and gay movement, which is about recognition and equal treatment. The term "Pride" was also coined, which stands for the opposite of shame, which is still often attributed to non-heterosexual people. Christopher Street Day is intended to commemorate the event from over 50 years ago and has now established itself in many parts of the world as a colorful demonstration for acceptance, safety and legal protection for all LGBTQI+ people.
