For as long as @anni.berlin can remember, photography has been one of her most vivid memories. As a child, she went on photo tours with her childhood friend using her grandmother's roll-top camera - so #Instawalks are old news for her. During her time as a student and later as a language teacher in Paris, it was always these walks that have become an important part of her personal balance to this day - as a counterbalance to the head world of her profession as a teacher.
Andrea has lived in Berlin since 1999 and, apart from the “wintertime questioning”, is very happy in the city. There are a few common threads on her Instagram account - shadow plays, as much blue sky as possible and, in her own words, “old men at the window” - “you often have to look more closely at my pictures, even if that might not be contemporary - and I want to break with viewing habits,” she says.
@anni.berlin uses Instagram exclusively for #latergrams that she took with her digital camera. Compared to the days of rolling cameras, she appreciates the greater freedom of being able to take hundreds of shots - "but the best pictures of a subject are always among the first three!" She selects carefully, edits, and... in the end, keeps many of the photo treasures for herself and her friends.
For Andrea, the best opportunity to explore photography in depth and indulge her passion for street photography often comes when she travels - and she has a special interest in Eastern Europe, having visited Romania, Albania, Montenegro, Serbia, Croatia and Kosovo, among others. "I want to discover beauty in decay," she says, adding, "I try to avoid places that attract crowds."
