ESKIMO

He feels at home on Instameets – “the people there can show me places I hadn’t noticed before.” Each of his shots is marked on the photo map, so there’s no guessing about the location, and @eskimo says: “I don’t have a competitive relationship – I’m happy when others present spots I’ve discovered differently!” Since he appeared on the suggested user list, his follower numbers have skyrocketed, plus the inevitable spam.

Although he likes to take a “different look at the city” and often spends days racking his brains over how to best stage a particular location, @eskimo of course knows just as well which motifs always work well on Instagram: coffee table top views, symmetry and vintage cars as well as “the ass antlers of Instagram”: spiral staircases.

His stream is a good mix of this global Instagram style and the individual view. He particularly prefers the emptiness and "cleanness" of museums and the relationship between people and architecture, but sometimes also atmospheric images. "In Hamburg we have the harbor and tend towards kitsch. Alster pictures are through the roof."

But there is one faux pas for him - "professional cameras are frowned upon". When "the big guys" switch from smartphones to SLRs, Nico is done for: "Everyone should do what they want, but for me that's a reason to unfollow."
