DIY hand-painted candles
Candles are a beautiful decoration and create a cosy atmosphere in the evening. Did you know that candles can be easily personalized too? So instead of spending a lot of money on colourful candles, simply grab a few plain-coloured candles and do it yourself!
What you need for the DIY:
- Single-coloured candles
- Tea light
- Wax crayons
All materials for the candle DIY
Your designs will look best with white candles. Think about what you want to paint on your candles and choose a few wax crayons in your chosen colours. Next, light a tea light and carefully hold the first crayon over the flame to soften the wax. Grab a candle and then draw on it with the melted crayon - little hearts or flowers, for example! After that, the wax just needs to dry again and you're done! Give the candles as a gift with a beautiful candle holder or tie them up with a pretty bow, write a nice card and you've got a beautiful, handmade gift for Mother's Day!
Step-by-Step painting the candles
DIY vases made from milk cartons
Did you know that milk cartons are very easy to recycle? Instead of throwing away the empty cartons, you can use them to make beautiful vases, for example. Thanks to the coating, they are already protected against moisture anyway. A quick and cute idea to give as a gift or for yourself!
You need for this DIY:
- Empty milk cartons
- Scissors / cutter knife
- Acrylic paints and brushes
All materials for the DIY vases
As soon as you have finished your milk, rinse the box briefly with a little water and then think about how high you want your vase to be. Use a cutter knife or scissors to cut directly into the cardboard and cut off the top part (i.e. the part with the cap). Then rinse the inside again with a little water.
Cut the boxes and paint them
Now you can get creative and paint the cardboard with acrylic paints! We recommend using a background colour as a primer - depending on the colour you choose, you may need to apply the paint a second time so that none of the cardboard design shows through. Let the background colour dry and then decorate your vase with your design! Once you're happy with your design, let everything dry thoroughly again. Place a few flowers in the vase and you have a unique and beautiful gift!
