PICKMOTION tree planting event vol. 2
Last year in May the PICKMOTION team met with the founders of Viva la Wald, Sebastian and Frederik, to strengthen a forest section in Neuruppin, Germany, with new tree seedlings. We joined forces with them again to plant some more trees in another local forest area, this time in Beelitz, Germany. On April 19th, we came together, grabbed our gardening gloves and put a total of 1250 new trees into the ground.
We need healthy forests to fight climate change
Planting new trees is an important undertaking for our climate. German forests in particular consist mainly of monocultures which means that the forest areas consist only of pines or spruces - both tree species that can store only little water and are thus particularly dry. This makes them more susceptible to pests or severe forest fires, which in turn lead to high levels of air pollution and cause huge emissions. This is exactly the problem that occurred in the forest area in Beelitz, where a large fire destroyed an area of about 800 hectares, destroying a huge habitat for plants and animals. What remained was a devastated and severely dried out area and only a few trees that are still covered with a lot of soot. Reforestation campaigns like the ones by Viva la Wald have made it their mission to restructure and care for forest areas like this one. Individuals as well as companies can support this endeavour and lend a helping hand - and that's exactly what we did again this year!
Trees in the name of our clients
We planted a total of 1250 new tree seedlings, each tree representing one of our clients, whom we have been welcoming since January 2022 and still will be welcoming this year. When planting the trees, we made sure to plant seedlings from different tree species, because only species-rich mixed forests lead to a healthy forest. In the meantime, the forest section has been fenced off to protect it from rodents and marked with a sign. Sebastian and Frederik from Viva la Wald will continue to take care of the forest section to guarantee safe growth for many years. Every contribution counts to help improve our climate.
