Today for you: wohnmacher from Leipzig - good mood and a mix of old and new. There is something for everyone here and you will be inspired to try something new. Nadine Nonnenmacher answered a few questions about her shop:
What is the concept of your store?
wohnmacher is a feeling of home and a good mood! Since 1998 we have been delighting Leipzig residents and guests of the city with a constantly changing range of design-oriented home accessories, gifts, furniture, lamps and lifestyle products. We do not offer tailor-made complete solutions, but want to encourage people to mix styles, combine old with new, integrate the flea market dresser into the new living room instead of replacing it and thus give the home its own, unique charm. We ourselves love to travel and are interested in different cultures, their architecture and lifestyles. All of this inspires us to constantly create new living experiences and collect favorite pieces.
Where is your business located? Perhaps in a special building, neighborhood or well-known street?
Our shop is located on Nikolaistrasse in Leipzig, a pedestrian zone that leads from the main train station directly into the city center to the famous St. Nicholas Church. At the beginning of the 20th century, Nikolaistrasse and the neighboring Brühl were known for the international fur trade. Furs were traded and stored behind the beautiful Art Nouveau facades, as was the case in the "Zweireiter" house, built in 1910 by the architect Alfons Berger, whose name comes from the two billy goats above the shop windows.
What is the history of wohnmacher? Who founded it?
My husband Franz and I opened the shop 18 years ago on the ground floor of the "Zweireiter" building. Our shared interest in beautiful things and a penchant for interior design gave us the idea and we quickly decided to put it into practice. At the end of 2012, we expanded the shop by another 200 square meters on the first floor and offer a selection of selected furniture and lamps there.
What do you like about Pickmotion?
Pickmotion is wonderfully refreshing and full of life. The motifs speak from the soul, everyone can see themselves somewhere. You can see that no commissioned photographer was at work to shoot a postcard collection, but that these pictures were collected by different people and reflect special, unforgettable moments. My favorite motif is still "Life is Confetti", which for me expresses an incredible joy of life.
