#PCKPHOTOTALK WITH SEA MUSIC - IN LOVE WITH DETAIL

Jul 10, 2024Lorenz Hartmann

Michaela aka @meermusik has been featured on our postcards with her motifs for a long time. My absolute favorite picture of hers is the card “Sea Dalmatians.”

Introduce yourself briefly to our readers.

My name is Michaela, I live in Hamburg and am originally from Graz. My love of the north and the sea brought me to Hamburg. I couldn't live without music and the sea...

Describe your style in three words:

Minimalistic, calm, attention to detail

When did you start taking photographs?

Photography has always fascinated me, but initially only as an *observer*. 4 years ago, after my father died, I consciously started capturing moments. At first, photography was "just" a creative outlet for me - now it is my (everyday) passion.

What fascinates you about Instagram? / Is there an alternative to Instagram for you? / How do you see the future for Instagram?

At the beginning, IG was just a good way for me to edit pictures, but at some point I
I didn't dare to share them and never thought it was possible that people would actually follow me. Today, Instagram is a way for me to share my snapshots, keep a digital diary and be inspired by others.
For me, IG is also a platform to meet new people, worldwide and without being limited to a radius. My move to Hamburg would never have been so nice and uncomplicated without these wonderful people that I met through IG.

To be honest, I've never thought about alternatives... I think IG offers a good platform for different styles, motivations, approaches, etc. - I like authentic posts, no matter what kind. I hope that these will continue to be represented and that paid, sponsored posts will not take over... even if this wish is perhaps naive ?

Do you use Snapchat?

Yes and no ? I am one of these passive users because I don't (yet) figure out how Snapchat works :))

What is your favorite photo spot?

The North Sea and the Baltic Sea, everything that includes water and space. I like the calm that the sea exudes. Even if it is sometimes rough, for me it is pure relaxation... and that is what I try to convey in my pictures. The same goes for Sweden, Norway, Denmark...

Who are your top three Instagrammers?

That's difficult because I follow so many different people, everyone has their own style, their own way of expressing themselves.

@theslowtraveler is one of my favorite pages...Beautiful, pastel-colored snapshots. Here you have the feeling of experiencing the journey, my wanderlust increases when
Viewing the pictures always massively ?

The wonderful @ohsomundane always makes me smile and think with her pictures. Great (detail) shots paired with emotions, humor and a large portion of honesty! Great!

And because I always find it exciting how others experience and see my hometown Hamburg: @kiezastronaut (along with many others such as @sanktpauligedanken or @rockvanity)
His #doorsofstpauli are legendary, I can no longer walk past a door without
my inner eye immediately flashes this hashtag ? I like his way of depicting Hamburg (and many other cities) in photos.

I love your Instagram name! How did you come up with your name: Meermusik?

It was actually a completely spontaneous inspiration - I love the sea and music. At the beginning I "described" my pictures (almost) exclusively using song lyrics and suddenly the name was there. And I don't think anyone else could describe my account better. I am sea music through and through.

And finally: one of your favorite photos and your thoughts about it?

The picture was taken in May this year when we were on holiday in Sweden. When we are on the road we always try to spend a few nights in our car and look for beautiful places - always spontaneously, i.e. while driving. We found this one on the way home and immediately thought it was *suitable* - suitable for spending a lovely evening with red wine, spending the night there and, above all, waking up in front of such a wonderful backdrop. Simply perfect. Breathe easy...
