We always present you with special or unusual shops that carry our products. Today we are introducing you to a very unusual #coolshop . Papelito has been around for a good quarter of a century and is located on Cologne's student mile par excellence: Zülpicher Straße. With a colorful mix of stationery, design, kitsch and knick-knacks, the cute shop delights those who like to browse. There are many other curious and pretty little things to discover here.
Where exactly is your store located? What does it look like there?
Papelito is a wonderful world and stationery shop in the middle of Kwartier Latäng, Cologne's student district. For more than 25 years we have been making everyone who loves paper, calligraphy, letters and seals happy. And of course Spökes. Because apart from all the great paper goods, Papelito also has a constantly changing selection of design and old school, kitsch and knick-knacks - upcycling products and kaleidoscopes, cult kitsch and cut-out dolls, tin robots and pens from Kaweco, Rijkswachters and paper masks. Come by - it's always nice here and there's much more to discover than can be described here!
The store is colorful and packed to the ceiling. Most people who come here for the first time experience sensory overload, but quickly find that our somewhat different shopping experience is enjoyable.
What is the basic concept of your store?
Papelito and Papeterie – it's like love and air, like Romeo and Juliet, like a pair of swans, also a bit like Stan and Ollie or Clever and Smart. And Ernie and Bert. Bonnie and Clyde! The double Lottie? Lady and the Tramp! Anyway, in addition to all the beautiful things made of paper and love, there's also a lot of slapstick, a lot of nonsense and plenty of tinsel. Everything you can imagine to keep or give away... we even have presents for most fathers. Of course, I can't guarantee there will be exceptions, but if not at Papelito, then I don't know where.
I am always on the lookout for something unusual. If I see that something from my range is being sold in department stores, I take it out of the range because people come to me because I have different things than others. To find these, I regularly go to trade fairs in Germany, France and England.
In your opinion, how do you fit in with PICKMOTION? How did you find PICKMOTION?
PICKMOTION and Papelito – what can I say?! We are best friends. I don't think that postcards need to be designed more and more pompously and then of course become more and more expensive. It's all about the message! For me, PICKMOTION symbolizes exactly that – that it's the message that counts. When I heard about the PICKMOTION concept from a sales representative, I was immediately excited and just had to have you in my shop.
What is special about your shop? How do you use the advantages of brick-and-mortar retail? How do you differentiate yourself from other shops and/or online shops?
Papelito makes life beautiful. It's colorful and cheerful here, there's a lot to discover. And we're on hand to offer help and advice when it comes to finding the best gift - and we'll wrap it in the prettiest wrapping paper and tie a bow on it so that you get the most magnificent package you can imagine. Papelito inspires and makes your life easier. People often ask why they don't have an online shop. The answer is simple: because you can't see our smiles on the internet. And that's why we don't give good advice and don't experience really happy customers. I prefer working with people to machines.
What do you like most about PICKMOTION and which products do you like best?
PICKMOTION is as creative as we are and we have fun – we like the classic postcards in retro design the most. At the moment our favorite are the new motifs of Cologne!
We can definitely recommend that you don't miss out on this little wonderland with all its charms and extraordinary products. Zülpicher Straße not only has a lively student life and culinary delights to offer, but also Papelito - and that alone is worth a visit in Cologne.
