Maximilian Münch has been on the photo app since April 2014. He had heard about traveling Instagrammers and consciously and proactively built a channel that offered him the lifestyle that many only dream of: traveling, taking photos, meeting interesting people. "Sometimes I get asked how you do it? And it's actually hard work to get orders." @muenchmax puts time, money and effort into his projects, pursues "the idea of investing" - and of course gets something back, including in his collaborations with airlines, Samsung and Sony.
Maximilian's musician soul probably also explains the care, or let's call it perfection, of his curating. The gallery is more than a collection of images and functions more like a composition or a Soundcloud mixtape. Again and again he looks for formal points of connection from one image to the next, not a philosophy that we have already encountered. "I'm always thinking ahead. Like playing the piano, you always have to be two bars ahead. For me, every image is a note."
"I'm very spontaneous when I take photos, but of course I do plan a little in advance, because by chance I don't wake up in time for sunrise," says the photographer, who seems to have specialized in misty sunrises in the mountains in recent weeks. He has had a SLR camera for a month, but still edits all of his photos directly on his smartphone.
The Chemnitz native loves the idea of being together on Instagram, the community spirit, but less the challenges. “Great friendships” and surprising encounters arise from shared interests alone. “It’s often impossible to predict what someone is like outside of Instagram.”
When asked about the destinations he has visited in the first six months of this year alone, he mentions: Harz, Italy, Tenerife, Tanzania, Kenya, Utah, Amsterdam, London, Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland - a remarkable list in itself. Plus the paltry 18 concerts he has managed as a trained musician and producer - you get an idea of his calendar. Pickmotion also waited 4 months for a date - and then everything was very relaxed.
