LET YOUR IMAGINATION RUN WILD – AN INTERVIEW WITH @O_PINHEIROJOSE

Can you introduce yourself briefly?
My name is José and I'm 27 years old. I live in a small town called Amarante near Porto (great city!). Sometimes I teach, but mainly I'm a graphic designer and illustrator - in love with creative photography.

When did you start taking photos?
It all started in high school when I got my first cell phone with a good camera for my birthday. I started taking photos and after a while I got my first real camera. That's how my passion for photography grew.

When did you start using Instagram?
In 2013 I created an account, but initially I only used Instagram to follow other people. After a while I got interested again and started posting my own pictures. At first my feed was quite different from what it is now. It took me some time to find my own style.
I never thought Instagram would have such a big impact on my life! But it became more serious over time and I started to think more and more about what I post. Now it's a really demanding job!

What do you like most about Instagram?
Oh, there are many things. First of all, of course, the possibility of sharing my photos with other people and getting their feedback via comments. Instagram is also a good place for a daily dose of inspiration. You see so many different pictures and different styles from all over the world. The second thing is of course the Instagram community, through which I have met many people and cultures from different countries. For example, at meet-ups - it's always fun to get to know the people behind the camera who you otherwise only know from their Instagram account. Sometimes a real surprise!

How do you edit your photos? And who takes the photos if you are in them?
Sometimes I use Photoshop or Instagram tools. But most of the time I create my own backdrop.
I usually ask my niece for help. But I often need a team, for example when I want things to fly into the picture. Then I need two people to throw objects in and one person to take the pictures. I hope you can see how much joy and fun I have taking my photos!

How do you get ideas for your pictures? Who or what inspires you?
Most of the time I get inspiration from the simplest things. I see an object, for example a fruit or a plant, and immediately start thinking about how I could use it in a photo. This often happens very quickly and so I write a lot of things down in my notebook so I don't forget anything. Music is another very big part of my life. Some of my favorite singers are: Chet Fake, The XX, Sigur RS and Alt-j. But films, video clips and lyrics also excite and inspire me.

Your 3 favorite Instagrammers?
That's very difficult to say. I follow so many photographers who inspire and motivate me every day and they're all so talented! So the best thing to do is just look at who I follow and you can discover great new streams.
