Where exactly is your store located? How does it look like?
Our shop Smunk am Kreuzberg is located in Berlin, directly at the foot of the Kreuzberg and opposite to the waterfall. In the neighbourhood is the Bergmannkiez filled with many nice shops, cafés and restaurants. You can recognise our small shop from afar by the striped awning under which many colourful flowers, plants and, of course, the Pickmotion card stand come together. During these special times, we try to make more use of our outdoor area. This way, our customers can comfortably stroll and shop outside without having to go into the shop. Of course, they can also browse indoors as much as they like.
What is the basic concept of your shop? And what does the name Smunk actually stand for?
At our place, you will find everything your interior design heart could ever ask for as well as all kinds of things that make everyday life even more beautiful. Whether its tableware, home textiles, candles, decorative items, children's toys, vases, planters, or cards for every occasion... - the list is long. In addition to all the beautiful gift ideas, for yourself or others, you will also find indoor and garden plants as well as cut flowers, which we take great pleasure in tying into special bouquets. We especially love Scandinavian design; as a native from Hamburg, Laura is addicted to the North. That's also where our name comes from: it is supposed to sound Scandinavian without having a meaning. The name should remind us of our last holiday in the far north, of hours spent rummaging between knick-knacks and design, of fragrant cinnamon buns and the roaring sea. The reference to Pippi Longstocking's Spunk is of course intentional. To this day, young and old puzzle over the name and the expression is simply fun to say. We are Smunk with all our hearts.
In your opinion, how does your shop fit to Pickmotion? How did you become aware of us?
The colourful motifs from Pickmotion are as diverse as our range. They spread good humour and are fun to give as gifts. There is something for everyone and you will find something for every occasion. Years ago, we passed by a Pickmotion postcard stand ourselves and couldn't go any further, so thrilled were we by the variety of special motifs. We ended up buying cards for all of our loved ones. That’s how it became clear you could not be missing from our assortment.
What makes your business special and different from other retails or webshops? How do you use the advantages of stationary retail?
We are a small family business with a handful of great employees who, just like us, take great pleasure in working on beautiful things. Our two animal welfare dogs Eddy & Ella are also an integral part of the team and always put us in a good mood when they are not taking a break under the working table. We design our shop with a lot of attention to detail and our bouquets are tied with a lot of heart and soul. The combination of home accessories, gift ideas and fresh flowers is what makes our range so special. There is always something new to discover! We take great pleasure in bringing together beautiful things from all over the world, especially from Scandinavia, and offering them to our customers. Function and joy are in the foreground. Whether it’s big or small – it has to fill you with joy to gift these things to others or to yourself. Beautiful things that quickly grow to your heart. We are pleased to be able to offer a large assortment of over 4000 hand-picked items, from designer lamps to lovingly designed Pickmotion magnets.
What do you like most about Pickmotion? Which products are your favorite?
Your motifs are colourful, varied and designed with love. They can also be gifted or hung on the wall without having to say anything. Our customers also appreciate the variety of motifs. Whenever you are looking for the right card for a small gift, you will find what you are looking for. You attach great importance to quality in all your products, which also convinced us completely. Apart from your postcards, we are particularly fond of your magnets. In our shop, we have a large board with a great selection of colourful Pickmotion magnets.
