Hi Rossella, it’s so wonderful to welcome you to our Pickmotion Family! First of all, could you introduce yourself to our readers? Who are you, where do you come from, where do you live now? Tell us a little bit about your personal background!
Thank you! I‘m so happy to be part of Pickmotion. My name is Rossella (aka @rox_emme), I‘m a graphic designer born and raised in Italy. I live in an ancient and quiet Italian village surrounded by mountains and national parks.
You’re a digital artist! How did you start with digital art and is it your main profession?
I work as a part-time graphic designer. I have always loved photography and art. When the Covid pandemic started, I couldn’t take pictures because of the quarantine. So, I decided to take up digital manipulation and quickly realised that I love this kind of art, too.
Your IG Feed is filled with the most beautiful photo manipulations featuring mostly animals and plants. Does nature have a special meaning to you? Do you have a favourite animal?
When I was a child, I spent a lot of time in my grandparents' country house. I grew up surrounded by nature so it’s my main source of inspiration. I love all animals, but my favourites are cats and deer.
Where else do you find inspiration and why?
I look for inspiration in nature, but also in my feelings and dreams. I like to express what I feel through images.
Tell us a bit about your creation process! Do you work with your own pictures, or do you find them somewhere else?
I started by using photos taken by me. Currently I use photos downloaded from the web (free of copyright, of course) and use them as a basic structure to create new pictures.
When and why did you start sharing your work on Instagram?
About 5 years ago. At first, I shared photos taken by me and then I switched to digital manipulation.
Do you have a favourite picture you have created? Can you tell us the story behind it?
My favourite picture is the one with the sheep wearing the scarf and hat.
The idea came after a dream I had the night before. I dreamt of a relaxing place surrounded by mountains, waterfalls and a blue sky. When I woke up, I felt so relaxed and wanted to share this feeling with a picture!
How do you feel about your Instagram community? Do you communicate a lot with them?
Oh yes! I have met so many interesting people and artists on Instagram. Some of them have become good friends.
Can you name some of your favourite Instagrammers that inspire you?
There are many artists on Instagram that I love, some of them are @zakeazy @cotton.tv @hey.luisa @n.rico @kazuyukikawahara
When was the last time you wrote a postcard? Do you have a favourite postcard you have ever received?
It has been many years since I last sent a postcard but during a trip, I always like to buy postcards as a memory of the places visited.
Did you know Pickmotion before we started collaborating?
Yes, I knew Pickmotion. I think collaborating with you is a great opportunity for an artist who wants to make his art known.
Finally, would you like to share a little story or anecdote with us? Feel free to tell us anything!
I would like to share my passion for Japan and its culture. In the future, I would like to visit it to see their artwork and architectural style. I also love their 'Kawaii' culture, I think it’s adorable!
