Nuremberg is the second largest city in Bavaria and is home to numerous beautiful places that are worth visiting. The cityscape is particularly characterized by its medieval architecture, which is great to capture on photos! Today we are taking a little winter walk through the city. The cover photo is by our photographer @luisafischerillustration , which she took from one of the most popular places...

Nuremberg Castle

Nuremberg Castle , also known as the Imperial Castle, is a landmark of the city and offers the best view of the city! From 1050 to 1571, the castle was used as an imperial residence, among other things. Today, the castle is considered one of the most important castles in Germany and one of the city's most important art and architectural monuments. There is also a magnificent castle garden on site, which offers many wonderful photo spots!

Weissgebergasse

The Weißgebergasse is said to be the oldest street in the city and is filled with many beautiful half-timbered houses that survived the air raids in World War II and are still incredibly well preserved. You can take many beautiful pictures of the architecture and picturesque pedestrian zone here! Of course, it is also perfect for a leisurely stroll at any time of year, where you can also make short stops at small restaurants, bars or cafés.

Museums

Nuremberg also has a number of interesting museums to offer for culture lovers. For example, Nuremberg has been known as a toy town since the Middle Ages and is still the home of the largest international toy fair. Of course, there is also a toy museum , which is great fun for young and old! There are many old and modern toy treasures to discover there and you will be amazed by the developments in the industry.

The Germanisches Nationalmuseum is the largest cultural history museum in Germany and exhibits works from prehistoric times to the present day. The architecture and a late medieval Carthusian monastery and its cloisters are also an impressive sight.

Another highlight is the Albert Dürer House . It is the only 15th century art house that has been preserved in Northern Europe and was the home and workplace of Albert Dürer - Germany's most famous painter. A visit to the museum lets you immerse yourself in the artist's world and changing exhibitions present the city's rich art collections.

Hangman's Bridge & Weinstadel

The Weinstadel is located in the middle of Nuremberg's old town, together with the Henkersteg and Henkerturm. At one time, the town was home to many lepers and the imperial city's executioner; today it is one of the most famous monuments in the northern old town. A popular destination for strolling and a great photo spot in all seasons.

Historic rock passages

If you want to see the city from a completely different perspective, you should take a tour through the historic rock passages . The rock passages were first mentioned in writing in 1380 and were mainly used for the storage and fermentation of beer. During the Second World War, many cellar areas were converted into air raid shelters and connected to each other. Today, the rock passages are known as the largest rock cellar labyrinth in southern Germany and are even partially used again as a storage and maturing room for some beer specialties. There are also many guided tours and even an escape room on offer!

Craftsmen's Courtyard

Anyone who has a weakness for arts and crafts and Nuremberg specialties should not miss a visit to the Handwerkerhof . In addition to Nuremberg grilled sausages, Franconian beer and wine specialties or Nuremberg gingerbread, there are also many handicrafts to discover. You can even watch potters, goldsmiths and doll makers at work! The Handwerkerhof is open daily - a visit is well worth it!
