Plitvice Lakes National Park

Close to the Bosnian-Herzegovinian border lies Croatia's largest national park, which is also the oldest in Southeast Europe and was one of the first natural monuments in the world to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. Here you will find 16 cascading lakes with crystal-clear water and many waterfalls in the midst of breathtaking nature.

joellerawr was here just like me a few days ago and took this wonderful picture, which shows the big waterfall (Veliki Slap) with a height of 78m, as well as the last waterfall of the lower lakes. What a view!

For those of you looking for adventure in the green wilderness, I recommend going away from the lakes on small hiking trails into the depths of the forest, just like one.a.day.adventures . And if you like it really adventurous, you can also look out for the abandoned palace (Objekt99/Villa Izvor) of the Yugoslav dictator Tito.

Učka Nature Park

The Učka Nature Park is located near the city of Rijeka . It is a mountain massif with dense forests and the two peaks Vojak (1401 m) and Veli Planik (1272 m), from which you can enjoy beautiful views over Istria .

At the foot of the mountains you can often still find old traditional stone houses, as well as the remains of older buildings from times gone by - you can see the foundations and wonder who once lived here. divljadusa7 captured such a sight.

On wild hiking trails you explore the deep forests of the mountains to be rewarded with such breathtaking views of nature. The image of jazzzlat awakens the desire to indulge in an adventure in the wilderness.

Once you have made your way to the top, you will be rewarded with this view over Istria, as antonioribic shows us.

Krka National Park

Krka National Park is located in central Dalmatia , has 7 waterfalls and similar flora and fauna to Plitvice Lakes. In comparison to these, however, swimming is allowed here. Simply paradise.

This is a very special waterfall, which was photographed here by Erdowin , because the Skradinski buk falls over 17 steps a good 48m into the depths.

A picture like from paradise. Definitely! This picture by Erdowin invites you to jump into the crystal clear water to cool off under the waterfall in the middle of wild nature.

Northern Velebit National Park

Sjeverni Velebit National Park offers wonderful viewpoints, high climbing cliffs and numerous caves. The region with its magnificent karst formations is definitely a worthwhile destination for hikers, mountaineers, speleologists, botanists and of course nature lovers.

marko.s.dalic went hiking to one of the peaks of the Velebit mountain range to reward himself with a view of the Croatian Adriatic. But just looking at such a view, you can say that “the journey is the destination”.

mademoiselle.penny has also gone to the heights of the mountains and is enjoying the wild toilet romance.

Kopački Rit Nature Park

The Kopački Rit Nature Park is located in eastern Croatia and is one of the largest and most important preserved wetlands in Europe. The area borders Hungary and Serbia, so it is a wetland biotope that stretches across three countries.

The bird's eye view of the ever-changing wetland is quite impressive, as ppkopackirit shows us.

To avoid getting your feet wet or even sinking into the swamp, there are walkways throughout the park that are a great way to explore the area. There are also boat tours, but croatiannomads has opted to explore on foot.

This was my tour through wild and green Croatia - and that was by no means everything that this wonderful country has to offer in terms of wild nature. So if you have planned a beach holiday on the Croatian Adriatic this summer, just pack your hiking boots and go exploring.
