KARUSA - FARBENFROH UND EINZIGARTIG

KARUSA - COLORFUL AND UNIQUE

Jul 10, 2024Lorenz Hartmann

Karusa is located in Munich Untergiesing, a district that has existed much longer than Munich itself. The former working-class district is currently developing into a very popular area because it is located near the Isar and the clocks actually seem to tick a little slower here than on the other side of the Isar. Above all, it is very colorful, bright and friendly. The interior is colorfully thrown together and partly old, so that a cozy atmosphere is created.

What is the basic concept of Karusa?

We call it 'your shopping room for handmade, regional and special items'. A good 70% of our range consists of handmade items from people in the local area. We sell these beautiful things, which are usually unique, on behalf of or for the many creative and talented people who make them. We also have various products from small or now somewhat larger Munich labels, such as ginger syrup from Inge and coffee from Fausto, both of which are located in the immediate vicinity. Or Munich gin from Duke, beer from Hopfmeister, Doppelbock liqueur from Heiland... The 'Special' section is the smallest section. Here we offer our customers things that we simply think are great and that we don't want to withhold from them just because they are perhaps not handmade and do not come directly from the region. These include, for example, the beautiful Hammam towels from Le Stoff (from Austria).

What is special about your shop?

What is special about our shop is the concept and the fact that we have many unique, handmade items. It is very colorful and the interior is made up of unique pieces, some of which are 'old' - so everything is a bit 'retro'. The typical, lively 'Karusa music' from the 50s and 60s that we always play fits in with this. The cozy atmosphere and the many homemade things that you can admire mean that you can simply forget the world outside in Karusa and just browse and get inspired. Of course we also have a seating area, because some customers stay with us for a really long time.

In your opinion, how does Karusa fit into Pickmotion and how did you come across Pickmotion?

When it comes to the topic of 'special', Pickmotion also comes into play. The cards are not regional and not handmade, but that makes them all the more special. We also liked the idea that the cards are somehow homemade, as the pictures come from Instagram accounts of 'normal' people. Great idea and fits very well with Karusa, we think.
We first saw the Pickmotion cards in a shop at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin and we really liked them. We then visited the Pickmotion stand at Trendset in Munich and now we can't imagine our shop without the cards because our customers are really keen on them.

What do you particularly like about Pickmotion?

As I said, what we particularly like about Pickmotion is that the pictures come from Instagram accounts. We also like that there really is something for every occasion and - because the motifs are so beautiful - you can use them not only as cards but also simply as pictures. It's also nice that there are matching envelopes - with a heart on them - we particularly like that.

Check out Karusa if you're from Munich or visiting the Bavarian capital. It's worth spending a little time there and maybe getting to know Munich from a different perspective thanks to the many great unique pieces :)
