They are similar to us
We always see a little bit of ourselves in them, whether it's the same eye color, the same sense of humor or shared values. Our similarities encourage us to be who we are - with all our supposed flaws.
They speak our language
We often understand them without words. A glance out of the corner of the eye is enough and a small comment speaks volumes. Not to mention the jokes and insider information that only we can laugh at.
They are our allies
"I'll tell my big brother." This sentence was already popular in the schoolyard. Nowadays, we need them more to talk about our partner's or boss's quirks - but we still have their support.
They show us the way
We had to learn early on that things can't always be our own. At the same time, however, our older siblings in particular always opened new doors for us - especially with our own parents.
They shape us for life
Whether it's their favorite music or the vegetables they absolutely refuse to eat - our siblings' taste influences us too.
If it hadn't been for them, we wouldn't have had anyone to argue with, make up with, play with, celebrate with and annoy our parents together - and for that we just want to say THANK YOU.
