DIY SCARY SWEET HALLOWEEN DECORATION

Jul 10, 2024Lorenz Hartmann

For this DIY, you don't need a lot of materials to make little ghosts and round pumpkins. These can then be hung on the wall, cupboards, curtain rods or all sorts of other places and will definitely bring you and your guests a lot of joy! For the DIY Halloween decoration, you need:

  • Wool (white, orange, green or whatever colors you like)
  • Scissors
  • Glue (hot glue or liquid glue)
  • Googly eyes or a marker
  • cardboard

DIY Ghosts

First you need a piece of cardboard, which you can easily cut from old boxes in the waste paper. Cut out a rectangle the size you want your ghost to be. Take the white yarn (or the color you want your ghost to be) and wrap the string around the cardboard about 20 times. You can of course do more wrappings - this will make your ghost a bit thicker. When you are satisfied, cut the yarn. Cut a thread about 5cm long from the wool of the same color and push it between the wool and the cardboard. Now make a double knot to secure the long thread and you can then carefully pull the cardboard out. Make another knot with the loose ends of the thread - now you have a small loop that you can use to hang the ghost later!

Cut another 5cm long thread of the same color and wind it about 1/3 of the height of your ghost. Use this thread to give the ghost a head shape. Make another double knot with the loose thread and your ghost now has a body and head! Now you can cut open the loops at the end of the body and cut the dangling threads to the same length. Now all that's missing are the eyes! Take googly eyes and stick them on the face with a hot glue gun or liquid glue. If you don't have any googly eyes, you can also use a permanent marker and draw eyes on!

Your ghost is ready! Make more ghosts in different sizes and with different eyes and you'll have a cute ghost parade in your house in no time!

DIY Pumpkin

For the pumpkin, we proceed in a similar way to the ghost. Take another piece of cardboard and wrap orange yarn (or another color) around it several times. Use more yarn for the pumpkin than for the ghost, as the latter should be a little thicker and easier to shape. Cut the yarn and carefully pull the cardboard out. Then use a new string to wrap the pumpkin together again with a double knot.

If your pumpkin is not quite round yet, use your fingers to pull the shape a little. Now we need a green thread for the stem! Place it on the pumpkin and attach it with the orange thread. For even more stability, make another double knot with the green yarn. To make it more like a stem, make another double knot on the loose ends of the green thread.

Your pumpkin is now ready and goes perfectly with the little ghosts!

Now all you need is a nice place for your ghosts and pumpkins! You can use the loops to hang them wherever you want, perhaps on a doorknob, on the corner of a cupboard or on a lamp! Or you can take another thread and hang your ghost friends and pumpkins together on the wall!
