The paper house was founded 23 years ago by Felix Verspohl, then under the name "papierhaus - stationery for the environmentally conscious", who sold recycled paper and office supplies that were produced sustainably and ecologically. That was 23 years ago and now it has become Cailun and the paper house. A lot has happened since then, such as the expansion of the product range, but one of the main focuses is still environmental awareness.
The paper house is the small, friendly shop around the corner in the neighborhood and Cailun is the associated online shop where you can order online and pick up in the shop. The name of the online shop has a very special meaning, because Cailun was a Chinese eunuch who invented papermaking and even made it into the royal family. He made paper from cotton scraps and rags.
The paper house focuses on beautiful things, both the simple and the special. These include notebooks, all kinds of writing utensils, a large range of cards, gifts and packaging. They want to make the people in the neighborhood, who sometimes spend up to an hour browsing in their shop, happy. What is also very important to them is supporting local projects and schools, which they supply with stationery, for example the Teltow elementary school in Schöneberg.
The shop is a family business, which is not so common these days, according to Aina Verspohl, who runs the business with her father. She says that the paper shop was one of the first shops to sell Pickmotion cards, as they always have an eye for interesting and young Berlin companies. "Pickmotion is modern, young and has the retro charm that we really like," which is why they added the cards to their range. She also explains that the Berlin motifs that Pickmotion offered, especially in the beginning, are a nice alternative to normal postcards for tourists. What she also likes is that young people get the chance to get a career boost on Instagram.
Aina's favorite card is ZG-0348 because she is a huge turtle fan.
