DIY Colorful Bath Salts

Bath salts are a great gift to show your loved ones that they deserve to take a break and treat themselves. But instead of just handing them a bag of bath salts, you can add a personal touch and make the gift that little bit more special.

For this you need:

  • Bath salts
  • Food coloring
  • Three cups or glasses
  • A storage jar for the gift
  • Optional: Essential oils, a bow

DIY gift idea: dye your own bath salts

Take some bath salt and divide the amount equally into three glasses or cups. With a little food coloring, you can now easily color the bath salt as you like - just drop a few drops of food coloring into the bath salt and stir it well. If you want to add a nice scent, drop a few drops of essential oils into it. You can then pour the bath salt into a glass that you want to give it in! Decide for yourself whether you want to put each color on top of the other or have thin layers of the individual colors for fine stripes. Now all you need is a bow and a very personal gift is ready!

DIY Colored Candles

Candles are a lovely gift, especially during the cold season, to make your home really cosy. Give the candles a personal touch by colouring them yourself!

For this you need:

  • White candles
  • Candle remnants or wax to melt
  • Colorful oil crayons
  • Tall glasses to melt the wax in (as many as you use colors)
  • Wooden sticks for stirring
  • Newspaper as a base
  • A water bath or oven

DIY gift idea: dye your own candles

Fill the jars with old wax residue or wax pastilles. Crush the wax crayons into large pieces and place each color in a jar. Of course, you can also experiment and mix the colors together. The more pieces of wax crayons you put in, the stronger the color will be in the end. Then put the jars in the preheated oven at 100°C top and bottom heat and wait about an hour for them to become completely liquid. Alternatively, you can put the jars in a water bath and let the wax melt in it.

Prepare some newspaper or waste paper on the work surface as a base and get a plate ready to place the colored candles on. Now it's time to color! To do this, briefly dip the candles into the melted wax - the deeper you dip the candle, the more it will be colored. To prevent wax drops from running down the side, pull the candle out as quickly as possible and hold it straight over the glass. Wait a moment for the wax to dry and you've colored the candle a little! You can let your creativity run wild - for example, dip the candle again with the same side, but this time less deeply than before to create a nice color gradient. Or turn the candle over and color it from the other side.

Tip: Make sure that the wax layer is not too thick and that the wax in the jars always remains nice and liquid. The advantage of a water bath is that the jars can simply be left standing in the hot water.

Tie your colored candles together with a beautiful bow and you have a very personal and beautiful gift!

DIY gift idea: prepare your own cookie baking mix

It's best to add a card with the recipe and point out that 80g butter and an egg are needed for the cookies. For a vegan version, the butter can also be replaced with vegan butter and the egg with apple sauce.

Recipe for the cookies:

Preheat the oven to 180°C top and bottom heat. Remove the chocolate drops from the jar and set aside. Mix all the other ingredients in a large bowl and add 80g butter and 1 egg (or vegan butter and some apple sauce). Knead the dough well and then form 12 equal-sized balls. Line a baking tray with baking paper and press the balls down a little before placing them on the baking tray. Spread the chocolate drops on the cookies and press them into the dough a little. Put the cookies in the oven and bake for about 10 minutes. Let them cool and enjoy!
