I am really happy to introduce to you the one and only @juliaslieblinge, blogger and globetrotter from cologne. One of her photos is soon going to bee seen on one of our postcards, soon more! But today we want to talk about traveling and especially about her three week journey through Panama:
Kannst du mir ein bisschen was von der Reise erzählen? / Wie bereitest du dich auf deine Reisen vor?
Ich war 3 Wochen mit dem Rucksack in Panama unterwegs und war an vielen wundervollen Orten an der Karibikküste, im Landesinneren, an der Pazifikküste und natürlich in Panama City.
Ich hatte dieses mal weniger Zeit als sonst, mich mit meinem Reiseziel zu befassen. Normalerweise liebe ich es, vorher in Reiseführern zu schmökern und mich über das Land zu informieren.
Zusätzlich lese ich eine ganze Menge Reiseblogs um mich inspirieren zu lassen und nutze auch Instagram, um mir einen Überblick zu verschaffen und vielleicht nicht so bekannte Lieblingsorte zu entdecken.
Das Ungeplante und etwas Ungewisse hat dieses Mal richtig gut getan. Ich hab mich einfach treiben lassen, ganz spontan geplant und bin immer einfach da geblieben, wo es mir gerade am Besten gefallen hat.
Can you tell me a little bit about your recent trip? / How do you prepare for traveling?
I went to Panama to do backpacking for three weeks. I visited a lot of beautiful places on the caribbean coast as well as in the interior, the Pacific coast and of course Panama City.
I hadn’t enough time to prepare myself for the trip this time but normally I like to inform myself and read guidebooks before I go. Additionally I read a lot of travel blogs to get inspired and of course Instagram to discover some not so touristic places. But the unexpected and unknown this time was really good. I just let myself get carried away, I just stayed where I liked it the most and planned spontaneously.
Was hat dir besonders gut an Panama gefallen?
Ich fand es großartig, dass Panama so vielfältig ist. Von absoluter Entspannung und dem einsamen-Insel-Gefühl auf der karibischen Insel-Gruppe San Blas, über Wandern im Dschungel, Surfen und Schnorcheln im Pazifik bis hin zum Großstadtleben in Panama City war alles dabei. Außerdem war ich überrascht, wie unkompliziert das Reisen als Backpacker ist. Panama ist sehr klein und man kommt durch die gute Infrastruktur überall hin ohne viel Zeit zu verlieren. Zu guter Letzt sind es natürlich auch immer die Begegnungen und Menschen die eine Reise ausmachen. Auch wenn die meisten Reise-Bekanntschaften vielleicht oberflächlich sind, so sind sie doch wahnsinnig inspirierend und manchmal entwickeln sich echte Freundschaften.
What did you like the most about Panama?
Panama is so varied it’s amazing! You can do the total relaxation on the caribbean island group San Blas, but also go hiking in the jungle, surfing and snorkeling in the Pacific as well as enjoying the city life in Panama city. Furthermore I was really surprised how uncomplicated it is to travel as a backpacker. And last but not least there are the people you meet during your travels that matter of course. Most of the travel acquaintances are cursorily but still very inspiring and sometimes even real friendships develop.
Was sind deine Essentials die du immer auf deine Reisen mitnimmst?
An erster Stelle steht da definitiv meine Kamera. Ich habe inzwischen eine Fujifilm Systemkamera mit verschiedenen Objektiven, sehr praktisch da klein und nicht so schwer. Meine Nikon DSLR ist da doch etwas sperriger.
Passend dazu darf mein Fernauslöser nicht fehlen, wir sind wirklich ein gutes Team! Ich fände es nämlich schade wenn ich durch das Alleine-Reisen nicht auf meinen eigenen Fotos zu sehen wäre.
Danach kommt meine Playlist mit Lieblingsmusik, eine Menge guter Bücher auf meinem e-Reader und ein Notizbuch um Erfahrungen schriftlich festzuhalten.
What are the essentials that you always take to your travels?
First of all definitely my camera. I have a Fuji system camera with differentes lenses. It is really practical because it is small and not too heavy. My Nikon DSLR is a lot more bulky. Furthermore my remote release and I are a good team! I think it would be quite sad not to be on any photos because of traveling alone.
After that it’s my music playlist, a lot of really good books on my e-reader and a notebook to write down experiences.
Was fotografierst du auf Reisen am liebsten?
Ich glaube ich fotografiere am liebsten das Meer. Ich liebe die Endlosigkeit und Weite und kann es stundenlang anstarren.
Egal ob bei strahlendem Sonnenschein oder im Regen, mit oder ohne Schiffe, mit Palmen im Vordergrund oder Menschen in der Ferne – das Meer ist fotogen.
Grundsätzlich findet man auf meinen Fotos selten Menschen sondern eher Landschaften oder Dinge.
Gerade auf Reisen wünsche ich mir manchmal mutiger zu sein und Einheimische um ein Foto zu bitten.
What is your favorite photo subject on your travels?
I think it’s the sea. I love the infinity and width of the sea. I could watch it for hours!
It doesn’t matter whether it rains or the sun is out, with or without boats, with palm trees in front or people in the distance – the sea is photogenic.
Basically you rarely see people on my photos but instead landscapes and other things. Especially on my travels I wish sometime that I could be more brave and just ask the locals for a picture.
Was war ein beeindruckendes Erlebnis/Moment auf einer deiner Reisen?
Ein besonderes Erlebnis war die Wanderung auf die Speckkarspitze während meiner dreitägigen Hüttentour durch das Karwendel im letzten Sommer. Nach mehreren Stunden sehr anstrengendem Aufstieg war ich endlich auf dem Gipfel angekommen. Der Ausblick war einfach atemberaubend! Die Ruhe, die beeindruckende Natur und das Gefühl ganz weit weg zu sein und über den Dingen zu stehen – das war toll. Ich hab mich wirklich frei gefühlt und war nebenbei auch ein bisschen stolz auf mich.
What was your most impressive moment/ experience on one of your trips?
The hike on to the Speckkarspitze during my three day cottage tour through the Karwendel last summer was a pretty special adventure. After a few hours of a really exhausting climb I finally arrived at the top. The view was breathtaking! The silence, the impressive nature and the feeling to be far far away and to be on top of everything – that was amazing. I just felt free besides being a little proud of myself.
Was sind deine top drei Reiseziele?
1. Holland. Geht einfach immer. Ich liebe die niedlichen Küstenorte, die endlos langen Strände und den niederländischen Flair. Nebenbei auch das Essen – also: Frikandel, Kibbeling und alles was sonst so frittiert wird.
2. Portugal. Hatte ich anfangs völlig unterschätzt, das Land ist wunderschön und perfekt für einen langen Roadtrip entlang der Küste.
3. Marokko. Nur ein paar Stunden von Deutschland entfernt taucht man in eine völlig andere Kultur ein. Definitiv eine Reise wert.
What are your top three travel destinations?
1.The Netherlands. It works every time for me. I love the cute villages next to the coast, the long beaches and the atmosphere of the Netherlands.And the food – so: Frikandel, Kibbling and everything else that is deep-fried.
2.Portugal. I underestimated it at first but the country is beautiful and perfect for a long road trip next to the coast.
3.Morocco. Just a few hours away from Germany and you douse into a totally different culture. Definitely worth a trip!
Wo möchtest du in Zukunft noch hinreisen?
Puh, meine imaginäre Liste ist wirklich ziemlich lang. Ich glaube ganz oben steht momentan Skandinavien mit Norwegen oder Schweden, gerne auch Island. Ich habe mir aber auch vorgenommen Deutschland mehr zu erkunden. Manchmal denke ich mir: Wieso immer bis ans Ende der Welt reisen wenn man noch nicht mal sein eigenes Land richtig kennt? Ich glaube Deutschland hat viel zu bieten!
Where else do you want to travel in the future?
Phew, my imaginative list is really long. At the moment Scandinavia is on top, with Norway, Sweden or Iceland. But I also decided to discover more parts of Germany. Sometimes I think: why travel until the end of the world if you don’t even know your own country? I think Germany has a lot to offer!

Ich liebe @belkaberlin! Bei Ihren Fotos steigt mein Fernweh ins unermessliche, ebenso bei Ihrem Magazin „The Fernweh Collective“.
Da ich so gerne aufs Meer starre freue ich mich auch täglich über die Fotos von @cedricdasesson.
@Smaracuja folge ich seitdem ich Instagram habe, ihr Reiseblog war der erste den ich zu lesen begonnen habe.
In Köln sind meine momentanen Lieblingsbilder die von @lulovas und @ollili – nicht zuletzt weil die beiden Perspektiven und Motive entdecken die mir nicht in den Sinn kommen.
Erst vor Kurzem habe ich @aboutthelittlethingz entdeckt und mich in die Bilder verguckt. Der Account ist irgendwie alltäglich und verträumt zugleich.
Who are your favorite Instagramer?
I love @belkaberlin ! I get wanderlust as soon as I look at her pictures and her magazine „The Fernweh Collective“.
Since I love looking at the sea, I am always delighted about the photos of @cedricasesson.
@smaracuja’s travel blog was the first one I read and so I follow her since I am on Instagram.
My favorite pictures of cologne are from @lulovas and @ollili – they discover perspectives I don’t even think about.
And I just spotted @aboutthelittlethingz and I fell in love with the photos. The feed is ordinary and at the same time dreamy.
Hast du einen Lieblingshashtag?
Da gibt es viele, wenn ich mich festlegen müsste wäre es #backsfeel.
Hier schaue ich mir regelmäßig die getaggten Bilder an – Menschen von hinten.
Klingt komisch aber ich mag es, dass die Menschen den Blick auf das eigentlich Schöne, also den Hintergrund oder eine Landschaft, richten anstatt in die Kamera zu schauen.
Do you have a favorite hashtag?
There are many. If I would have to choose I guess it is the #backsfeel. I regularly check those pictures – people from behind.
It might sound weird but I like it if people concentrate on the beauty, so in this case the background or a landscape instead of looking at the camera.
