For all those cuddle monsters out there who need to defend their severe need for cuddles to whomever it is that ‘suffers’ from cuddle attacks (is that even possible?) – here are some very good arguments why we should definitely do it more often rather than less:
- Cuddling is super healthy! Body to body touch release oxytocin, which helps us bond, can lower anxiety, depression and blood pressure.
- Getting cosy with someone you love also releases the ‘happy hormone’ serotonin. While extra happiness is already a huge plus, there is a health benefit to this as well: Together, serotonin and oxytocin boost your immune system! A 2014 study found that people who hugged more, were less likely to catch a (severe) cold. Soo…Getting extra hugs definitely beats taking extra vitamins!
- ‘Hygge’ is trending non-stop lately and rumour has it that it explains why the Danes are some of the happiest people in the world. In essence, hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. Cosying up with a loved one for a movie – that’s hygge, too. If this isn’t reason enough for more cosy cuddle sessions, we don’t know what will be.
