With Rachel we are happy to welcome an artist from a completely different continent! Born in New York and partly raised in New Hampshire, Rachel lived most of her life in the US. However, after a semester abroad in Hamburg a few years ago, she fell completely in love with Germany (and not to mention our national treasure: delicious pretzels) and knew that she had to move here eventually. In 2019, Rachel made the leap and decided to move to Berlin. Lucky for us as she is now part of our talented graphic team! Besides creating beautiful illustrations for us, her favourite activities in our wonderful capital city include walking along the canal in Neukölln, watching the dancers at Monbijoupark, and exploring Grünewald by foot and by bike.
Before Rachel moved to Berlin, she started out in New York City as a security guard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art where she became besties with Van Gogh and mastered the art of telling people how to find the bathroom. After finishing college, she worked as an illustrator in NYC and created designs for apparel and homegoods for different surface design companies while also maintaining various freelance gigs on the side. A few years later, Rachel was ready for new challenges and was looking for a passionate team she could work together with. That thought, combined with her passion for illustrative storytelling led her to PICKMOTION and we are so excited to see her designs on our products!
Besides illustration and art, Rachel’s heart beats for comedy. In her free time, she loves to make comics about life (check out her website rachel-halper.com!) and last year, she faced her fears and started doing stand-up comedy in Berlin! It’s a wonderful way to get out from behind the computer and channel some energy. And since Rachel is a big fan of comedy, her favorite PICKMOTION motif is “Partykanone!” (MP-0715-DE) which was designed by @pina_coladi. It’s simply the perfect combination of hilarious and sweet! We are so excited to have Rachel in our team and can’t wait to share all her amazing designs with you!
